Dementia Specific Health Related Quality of Life Measures

  • DEMQOL
    Purpose: To assess quality of life in persons with mild to moderate dementia.
    Admin time:  10-20 Min
    User Friendly:  High
    Administered by: Interviewer with patient and/or informant.
    Most Appropriate:  Primary, Community and Residential Care. QoL for persons with dementia regardless of age.

  • Quality of Life in Alzheimer’s Disease (QOL-AD)
    Purpose: To assess the quality of life of persons with dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease.
    Admin time:  10-15 min with patients, 5 min with caregivers.
    User Friendly:  High
    Administered by: Self-Administered
    Most Appropriate:  Primary, Community and Residential Care. Patients with mild to moderate dementia (Alzheimer’s Disease)

  • Quality of Life in Late-Stage Dementia (QUALID)
    Purpose:  To rate the quality of life in persons with late stage Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses.
    Admin time:  5 minutes
    User Friendly:  High
    Administered by:  Interviewer to an informant (family member or professional caregiver).
    Most Appropriate:  Primary, Community, and Residential Care. Persons with late stage dementia residing in long term care facilities.

  • Assessment of Quality of Life (AQoL)
    Purpose: Generic health-related quality of life instrument which provides a profile relative to four dimensions of life.
    Admin time:  5-10 min
    User Friendly:  High
    Administered by: Self-Administered or by an interviewer
    Most Appropriate:  For economic evaluation of health interventions.
    Three applications:
    1. Simple additive HRQoL Measure
    2. HRQoL global index
    3. Economic evaluation.
